Reading at Uplands
Earlier in the academic year, students engaged in reading events.
Key Stage 3 students attended a storytelling session with new author Kayleigh Smith sharing her new book The Adventures of Lady Mouse and Wolfy: Beach Day Bother, featuring characters who are neurodivergent. Students enjoyed the story, along with stickers and colouring sheets of the characters that Kayleigh Beth brought along.
Through Arts Council Funding, Anish Harrison from the National Literacy Trust worked with around 16 young people of all ages, over several sessions, to gather their ideas, artwork, and feedback to co-produce teen story sacks, as we have raised the need for our young people to have books and multi-modal reads which were designed for their interest level and ability level. The sessions have been thoroughly enjoyed by all.
