PSHCE and RSE Consultation
Dear Parents and Carers,
Personal Social Health and Citizenship Education (PSHCE) and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)
At Uplands School, we believe that quality teaching and learning in PSHCE and RSE is central to the safe and healthy development of our young people. We therefore class it as a 'core' subject, similar to literacy and numeracy, due to its importance in supporting students both now and in preparation for adulthood.
In 2020, we consulted the school community, including parents/carers regarding our RSE curriculum and the principles agreed about RSE teaching at Uplands School remain at the core of our policy.
We have recently updated our PSHCE and RSE curriculum, based on the PSHE Association's SEND framework, and tailor made it to the needs of our cohort at Uplands. We therefore wanted to share our updated curriculum and policy with you and offer the opportunity for parents/carers to discuss it with us. Please note the curriculum is aspirational and knowledge will only be taught if/when young people are displaying readiness - they will not necessarily cover the whole curriculum and it will be tailored to individual needs so that the right content is taught in the right way, at the right time, for each student.
If you have any feedback or questions, please address this in writing to myself : cowens@uplandsschool.org.uk or attend the consultation meeting on Friday 21st April at 2.30pm. Please advise whether you would like to attend in person or via Teams.
Thank you for your support in helping us get such an important curriculum area right for all of our young people.
Yours faithfully,
Claire Owens
Deputy Head Teacher
